Another important video processing test for a DVD player is the ability to detect and limit noise around objects. When you watch a DVD on most DVD players and HDTVs, you will often notice a halo or "buzzing" look around objects that can sometimes be quite noticable, especially on closeups. This is referred to as "mosquito noise". A good video processor will limit, or eliminate, this effect. Here, you can see that only a very slight halo or "buzzing" around the plant in foreground, or the out-of-focus plants in the background. This is considered a very good result. The DV-983H definitely passes this video processing test.
