Definition: Blu-ray is one of two major High Definition DVD formats (see HD-DVD) that were vying to replace the current DVD standard in the U.S. market. However, since the introduction of both Blu-ray and HD-DVD, support for HD-DVD has waned, leaving Blu-ray as the remaining viable high definition disc format.
