Definition: DVR stands for: Digital Video Recorder. A DVR is a video recording device that records on a hard disk drive, rather than on video tape or disc. DVRs can be incorporated into cable and satellite boxes, as well as an addition to a standalone DVD recorder. DVR use may, or may not, be paired with a paid subscription requirement. A DVR is also sometimes referred to as a PVR (Personal Video Recorder). One example of a popular DVR is TIVO.
