We were escorted into a large darkened room where we saw the Meridian 810 Reference Video System, which consists of a very large video projector and an accessory video processor/scaler. The actual Meridian projector is based on JVC's D-ILA 10 megapixel projection technology, with some enhancements. The Meridian has a native pixel resolution of 4,096x2,400 (10 Megapixels) and a contrast ratio of 10,000:1. In addition, the projector also has power light source that pumps out 4,000 lumens. The video scaler has the ability to scale any video input source up to 10 megapixels.
The result was very impressive. All of the source material used was either standard definition or 1080p content and upscaled using the Meridian's video processor/scaler to 10 megapixels. The result was an excellent viewing experience. It was hard to imagine how the images could look any better. However, it would have great to see the results from a true 10 megapixel video source for comparison to upscaled images.
The announced price for the entire Meridian 810 Reference Video System is $185,000. Definitely not for the bargain hunter, but it is OK to drool and dream until the day.... If you are in the market for one, they are expected to be available by the end of 2008.
