One of the great things about CEDIA, and similar trade shows, is that you get a chance to see and experience products you would never see at traditional dealer, and in very few real world settings. If you have to ask how much the product is, then you probably can't afford it. One example of such a product line are the speakers and systems made by Steinway-Lyngdorf. If the name sounds familiar, it is the same Steinway that makes world-renown pianos, which is evident their physical design.

Of course, the question with esoteric products, such as the Steinway-Lyngdorf speakers, is are they really worth it? Having sat down for a demonstration of both a two-channel speaker system playing standard CDs, and a full home theater surround sound system featuring a unique modular speaker array, I can tell you that I haven't heard anything that reproduced so much detail across all frequencies that I can remember.

One of the more remarkable aspects of the Steinway-Lyngdorfs, was the ability to hear high and mid-range frequencies very distinctly, even when loud and forceful bass frequencies were present. In other words, in movie soundtracks, the effects did not drown out the vocal frequencies.

Of course, one has to keep in mind that it is not just the speakers, but also the quality of the amplification used, and Steinway-Lyngdorf has it down there as well. The way the systems are designed the amplifiers are actually built into the speaker cabinets - attached to the rear of the actual speaker array. The audio signals are transferred digitally until they actually reach the speakers. Also, instead of traditional speaker wire, or standard audio cables, the system is attached by CAT 5E cable.

If I ever win the Lottery.....
