OLED flat panel technology has been on display for the past few years at CES, however, the OLED prototypes shown by Sony at this year's CES are the closest to what I would refer to as production-ready that I have seen. The smaller panels are about 8-inches and the large panel on top of the display is an impressive 27-inches.

You may be asking yourself, "We have LCD and Plasma, why do we need OLED?". There are several answers, among them - lower power consumption and very thin profiles (less than 1/2 inch deep). Instead of Liquid Crystal (in the case of LCD) and Phosphors (in the case of Plasma), OLEDs create images via an electric charge interacting with organic compounds.
