Sharp offered its own twist on Blu-RAY with a model featuring a dual-well design, one well for standard DVD play and recording and the other devoted to Blu-RAY play and recording. In addition, the BD-HD100 also features an on-board 160GB hard drive. The unit is actually currently available in Japan. It is hoped that a similar unit will be available in the U.S. in 2006.
