In addition to all the TVs and Streaming products, new Blu-ray disc players were also on display at CES. Three of the most notable are shown in the above photo.

On the top left is the LG BP730, below that is the Sony BDP-S5100, and on the right is the Panasonic DMP-BDT330.

LG BP730 Highlights

The LG BP730 is the new top-of-line player in their forthcoming Blu-ray Disc player model line-up for 2013, and also has the distinction of receiving a CES 2013 Innovations Award.

As you would expect, the BP730 plays Blu-ray discs (2D and 3D), DVDs, and audio CDs, and also provides access to host of internet and network-based content via ethernet or built-in WiFi connection options.

However, to spice things up a bit, this player also includes LG's Magic Remote, which works much like a wireless mouse, making it easier to navigate through onscreen menus and content. For added support, the BP730 also has dual-core processor that aids in speedy navigation and internet browsing and display functions.

Other innovative features include 4K upscaling for all sources and Miracast point-to-point streaming capability from compatible devices.

Sony BDP-S5100 Highlights

The Sony BDP-S5100 shares a lot of the same features with LG listed above, such as 2D/3D Blu-ray Disc viewing, CD playback, and access to a host of internet content, but in addition, Sony is touting the increased range and stability of its is Wi-Fi capabilities, which is an important factor when streaming online video content. Another innovative feature is "SideView", which allows you to transfer content back and forth between the BDP-S5100 and compatible iOS and Android portable devices, such as tablets and smartphones.

On the other hand, there is no mention of, in the preliminary information, if the BDP-S5100 provides built-in 4K upscaling. Although if you have a Sony or other major brand 4K UltraHD TV has provides its own upscaling functions, having it also built-into the Blu-ray Disc play would be redundant, especially if those scalers do a good job.

Other models in the new Sony 2013 Blu-ray Disc player line will be the BDP-S3100 (Compare Prices) and 1100 (Compare Prices).

Panasonic DMP-BT330 Highlights

The Panasonic DMP-BT330, shown the right, veers away from typical black, with a more stylish lighter aluminum-like look. It features the same Blu-ray, DVD, and CD playback functions of the LG and Sony players, as well as similar network and internet access (including internet browsing) via its VieraConnect system, and the same MiraCast capabilities, (under the moniker of Display Mirroring), that is also featured by the LG player. In addition, 4K upscaling is included.
