OPPO Digital LT-2007 20-inch LCD-TV DVD Player Combination - Product Review

The OPPO LT-2007 is a 20-Inch LCD TV and DVD Player combination. Ideal for small spaces, the LCD TV section is tiltable, and features a DVD player and audio system housed in its base. In addition, the LT2007 also has additional audio/video inputs, as well as a detachable Digital Camera Card Reader. A VGA input is included for use as a game or computer monitor. OPPO Digital LT2007 Product Overview

1: The LT-2007 has an Enhanced Definition Television (EDTV) with a high quality 20.1" flat-panel TFT LCD screen.

2: The LT-2007 has an 800 x 600 native pixel resolution, 500:1 contrast ratio, 4:3 aspect ratio.

3: On board is an 181-channel Cable Ready Analog NTSC tuner with automatic station searching and fine tuning.

4: The Component video inputs can accept 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i HD video signals, however, all signals are scaled to the 800x600 native pixel resolution display capability. Composite and S-Video inputs are also included for sources, such as VCRs and Camcorders.

5: A VGA input is included in the LT-2007 for use as a computer or game monitor.

6: An innovative, almost hidden, slot-loading DVD player is built into the TV base, with Progressive scan and true digital connection. The internal direct connection insures the best quality signal possible from the DVD player to the TV.

7: Playback Compatibility of the LT-2007 includes: Standard DVD-Video, DivX®, CD, HDCD, WMA, Kodak Picture CD, as well as DVD-R/+R/-RW/+RW recordable DVDs.

8: A Coaxial Digital audio output is provided to allow for for Dolby Digital and DTS access through a home theater system (adapter cable required).

9: USB interface for flash memory or external device expandability. This feature allows the playback of digital photos directly from a Digital camera or Digital Camera Memory Card. In addition, you can also connect a digital audio player to the USB connection.

10: 3W x 2 stereo speakers built into base, headphone output, composite video, and analog stereo output. The composite video output allows for connection to a larger monitor or for recording non-copy-protected video content from the DVD player inside the LT-2007 to a VCR or DVD Recorder. The analog stereo outputs can also be connected to an external audio system that does not have digital audio input capability.

Setup - Hardware

Additional components used in the review of the OPPO LT-2007 LCD-TV/DVD combinaiton included a Yamaha HTR-5490 6.1 Channel AV receiver.

The comparison LCD Television used was a Samsung LN-R238W 23-inch LCD TV , which as a native pixel resolution of 1366x768 and a 16x9 screen aspect ratio.

A variety of loudspeakers, including Klipsch B-3s, Klipsch C-3, Optimus LX-5IIs, a Yamaha YST-SW205 Powered Subwoofer, and additional speakers, in both matched and mismatched setups were used.

The Comparison DVD player used was a, Samsung DVD-HD931, using the 480p standard progressive scan output mode via component video outputs.

DVD-Rs/DVD+RWs used were made using: Sony RDR-HX900, Philips DVDR985, and a Presidian PDR-3222.

For evaluation of the Digital Camera Card Reader function of the LT-2007, photos were take on a Panasonic PV-GS35 minDV camcorder using the still camera function, on an SD memory card, at 640x480 (.7 Megapixels) resolution. Additional photos were taken on a Memory Stick using a Sony DSC-R1 with resolutions ranging from 1296x864 (1.3 Megapixels) to 3264x2582 (10 Megapixels).

Setup - DVD/CD Software

Pre-recorded standard DVDs used in the the review of the LT-2007 included scenes from the following: Serenity, Aeon Flux, The Cave, Kill Bill - Vol1/2, Pirates Of The Caribbean, Valley Of Gwangi, Underworld, Moulin Rouge, Zathura, The Corpse Bride, and The Mummy, as well as video content on DVD-R and DVD+RW discs recorded on DVD recorders.

For audio only, various CDs included: HEART - Dreamboat Annie, Nora Jones - Come Away With Me, Lisa Loeb - Firecracker, Blue Man Group - The Complex, Telarc - 1812 Overture. In addition, music content on CD-R/RWs were also used.

The Silicon Optix HQV Benchmark DVD video test disc was also used for more precise video performance measurements.
