Online streaming service, PlayOn has completed the beta test of its PlayLater recording software. PlayLater is now available to the public.
PlayOn is PC software that can stream video from popular sites including ESPN, Comedy Central, Pandora, Amazon Instant Video, Hulu (free service), You Tube, CBS, Netflix and more, to select network media players and video game consoles. PlayLater can stream from PlayOn partners and record the shows to your PC. It is not available for Mac and, according to Jeff Lawrence, CEO and Co-Founder of PlayOn, will not be offered anytime in the near future.
While initially, PlayLater videos were only available to watch on a PC, the recordings are now stored in a folder called "PlayLater Recordings" and can be streamed to any device that can connect to the PlayOn PC.
Devices that can stream from PlayOn include the PS3 and Xbox 360, WDTV Live Hub, Roku box, and mobile apps for smartphones.
PlayLater is a subscription service. Bundled with the PlayOn service it will run $4.99 per month or $69.99 per year. There is no one-time subscription option as there is for the PlayOn service.
Jeff Lawrence said that PlayLater's beta testing went smoothly and it allowed them to get the service ready for the public in just a few months. The team also learned from users what features they most want which will be added to PlayLater soon.
Users want the ability to choose a TV show and have PlayLater record any new episodes as they are posted. Also, users want to be able to download the recordings to their tablet to watch when they are not connected to WiFi or the internet. Lawrence said these features are their priority for development.
If you want to check out PlayLater, they are offering a 14-day free trial.
