1. Using a Helios H4000 DVD Player the output resolution was set to 480i and the Composite video output of the player was connected to the matching composite video input on Epson MovieMate 85HD. The reason that the composite video output option on the DVD player was used to was to provide the most basic 480i input signal to see how well the 85HD can deinterlace the signal to 480p and then how well the projector can upscale the result to 720p for screen display.
2. I inserted a Silicon Optix HQV DVD Benchmark test disc in the DVD player and ran through a series of tests designed detect the deinterlacing and scaling ability of the Epson 85HD.
