Although Rear Projection Televisions have fallen out of favor due to the massive popularity of LCD and Plasma Televisions, they still provide the consumer with the largest screen image for the price of any TV models in use. Currently, Mitsubishi is the only company actively making rear projection televisions for the U.S. market. All these sets utilize DLP technology and are also 3D-ready (in fact, most DLP sets made from 2007 to now have been 3D ready). So, if you are tired of watching that "tiny" 27-inch TV, why not go "all the way" and buy a really big DLP rear projection television? Check out my favorite picks.
Take a DLP projection television and, instead of using a traditional light source to produce the viewable image on the screen, employ laser technology for the task.
The result: Excellent color reproduction and contrast, as well as a light source that doesn't wear out. Also, this set is so thin, it can even be wall-mounted like an LCD/Plasma TV.
The Mitsubishi 75-inch L75-A94 not only features LaserVue technology, but is also 120Hz 3D-ready (with optional accessory processor and glasses), and offers 6 color processing, 1080p native resolution, four HDMI inputs, and internet streaming.
I have seen both prototypes and production versions of this set at CES and CEDIA and it is impressive. Check out the LaserVue Microsite.
If you think that a TV with an 82-inch sreen is big, how about a TV that has a 92-inch screen? The Mitsubishi WD-92740 is 3D-enabled, and features a 92-inch, 16x9 screen, native pixel resolution of 1920x1080 and 1080p upscaling, supported by six-color processing and a
120Hz refresh rate. Other features include an HDTV Tuner (ATSC and QAM), 4 HDMI inputs, and a USB input for display of digital photos or flash drive music file access. Additional bonuses include Stream TV (Vudu) Internet Apps, allowing you to view a host of internet content, as well as 16 speaker - 32 watt Immersive Sound Technology speaker system. If you like your TV really big, and with lots of connections, check this one out. You won't find an LCD or Plasma Television in this screen size, and if you do, it would not be anywhere near the price of this Mitsubishi DLP projection set.
