2. Sharp Aquos LC-60SQ15U Q+ LED/LCD TV
If Dad isn't excited about making the jump to 4K but really wants a high-performance TV, then consider the Sharp Aquos 60-inch LC-60SQ15U.
What makes this TV a standout is that it incorporates Sharp's proprietary Q+ image enhancement technology. What this means for Dad is that even though the LED/LCD panel on these sets is 1080p, Sharp's engineers have developed firmware that effectively splits all of the panel's subpixels vertically in half, thus enabling a Q+ set to display images in "higher-than-1080p resolution". Technically, the Q+ process adds up to 2.5 times number of pixels above 1080p (true 4K is about 4 times the number of pixels as 1080p).
This serves two purposes: First, Q+ can bring more detail out in 1080p source signals than a standard 1080p panel, and, more importantly, Q+ processing can approximate the detail that an incoming native 4K image contains, and deliver a TV product that is less expensive than a full 4K Ultra HD TV.
In addition its innovative Q+ processing, the LC-60SQ15U also incorporates 4-Color Quattron technology, which produces vibrant color, edge lit LED/LCD panels, 240Hz screen refresh rate, 4 HDMI inputs, 2 USB inputs, 3D viewing, and Smart TV (Smart Central 3.0) features for access to network and internet streaming content.
The Sharp Aquos LC-60SQ15U Q+ LED/LCD TV is definitely worth checking out.

The The Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 2030 Video Projector incorporates 3LCD technology, a 5,000 hour 200 watt lamp that can produce up to 2,000 lumens of both white and color light output. Epson also rates the contrast ratio of the 2030 at 15,000:1. What all this means is that image will be bright enough for a good viewing experience, whether in 2D or 3D. However, for 3D viewing, glasses must be purchased separately. Epson offers convenient USB rechargeable Active Shutter RF glasses.
For connection convenience, two HDMI inputs are provided, one of which is MHL compatible, allowing content access from compatible portable devices, such as smartphones and tablets, as well as direct connection for a Roku Streaming Stick. Dad can also playback of photos and slide shows from flash drives via the included USB port.
There is even a 2 watt mono speaker system included, which works fine in a pinch if your in a small room where no external audio system is available. However, an added bonus is that the BDP-103D also includes Darbee Visual Presence Video Processing.
Darbee Visual Presence further improves the depth and detail of a displayed image, regardless of the source (as long as it is sent via HDMI).
