In order to test the video upscaling performance of the Epson MegaPlex MG-850HD 3LCD Projector, I used the HQV DVD Benchmark Test Disc from Silicon Optix (IDT). The disc has a series of patterns and images that test how well a video processor in a video projector, Blu-ray Disc/DVD player, TV, or Home Theater Receiver can display a good quality image when faced with a low resolution or poor quality source signal.

The results of several tests listed above are shown in this photo profile. The tests results shown include: Jaggies Pattern 1 (Jaggies 1), Jaggies Pattern 2 (Jaggies 2), Flag, Film Detail (aka Race Car Test), and Mixed 3:2 with Titles (Titles). The remaining tests were conducted and will be discussed, but are not presented in photographic form in this report.

All measurements were conducted using the projector's factory default settings and with Auto Iris Off.

Screen shots were obtained using a Sony DSC-R1 Digital Still Camera. The photos were taken at at 10 megapixels and then resized for placement in this gallery.

1. Using an OPPO DV-980H DVD Player I set the output resolution to 480i and connected the HDMI output from the DVD player to the Epson MegaPlex MG-850HD 3LCD Projector. This connection option provided a 480i input signal to see how well the MG-850HD can deinterlace the signal to 480p and then upscale the result up to 720p for screen display.

2. I inserted the HQV DVD Benchmark test disc in the DVD player and ran through a series of tests designed to detect the deinterlacing and scaling ability of the Epson MegaPlex MG-850HD 3LCD Projector.

After going through this gallery, also check out my Review, and Photo Profile.
