Silicon Optix - HQV Technology - Benchmark DVD - Product Of The Week

Sunday July 17, 2005
You just shelled out big bucks for that new HDTV. It looked great in the store, but how do you know if you are really getting good performance from your purchase. In addition, is that high-end DVD player you have really up to snuff? Will the addition of that expensive video scaler/processor really make a difference?

With the Silicon Optix HQV Benchmark DVD, even the average consumer has the ability, viewing a series of tests and scoring the results, to find out whether or not their television, DVD player, or an external video processor/scaler is delivering the performance that it claims to deliver on paper.

The HQV DVD takes the user through a series of video performance tests. The tests include: Color Bar/Vertical Detail, Jagged Edge Tests, Motion Tests, Overall Picture Detail, Video Noise Reduction, Progressive Scan performance, and more.

The DVD starts off by giving the user an overview of the tests and how to score them, by showing simulated examples of what to look for. A scorecard is also provided with the HQV DVD that you can use to easily quantify the test results for your video components. Although only one scorecard is included, you can make photocopies to actually use for your own tests.

The HQV Benchmark DVD is a very useful, easily understood, and affordable tool that anyone can use to evaluate the video performance of their home theater without the need of a high-priced technician.
