2012 is quickly drawing to a close and it is time to for me to reveal my favorite products of the year. It has been a tough year for both consumers and the consumer electronics industry, especially for TV manufacturers, as we have had four years of economic recession.
While consumers have tightened their belts, some big Japan-based players, such as Sony, Panasonic, and Sharp, are struggling to maintain market share against the slow economy and continued onslaught of Korea-based LG and Samsung. However,
against this backdrop, innovation continues as 4K UltraHD TVs have reached the market and OLED may not be far behind.
Also, other innnovations, such as increased integration of both wired and wireless internet and network-based content streaming features in TVs, Blu-ray Disc players, and TVs continues, as well as a touch of the past returning as vacuum tubes try to claim a spot in home theater audio.
For consumers, the variety of TVs and other home theater products available have never been greater, and for those on a tight budget, the prices have never been lower.
With the above perspective in mind, what were the top home theater products of 2012? After sorting through my product reviews and trade show exhibit experiences, I have come up with my picks for best products of the year in several product categories.
