DTS has announced the availability of the DTS Express audio codec for inclusion in UltraViolet DVD and Blu-ray Digital Copies.

In addition to movie studios, internet streaming content solution providers, such as Digital Rapids, Elemental Technologies, and ROVI can all take advantage of DTS Express encoding.

DTS Express allows up to 7.1 channels of surround sound, and is backwards compatible with all past and current DTS decoding systems. This means that if your home theater receiver, or other playback device, has a built-in DTS decoder, it will also be able to decode DTS Express - there is no need to upgrade. This will give viewers of UltraViolet Digital Copies of movie and TV shows an enhanced audio listening experience.

For more details, including DTS Express technical specifications, read the Official DTS - UltraViolet Announcement.
