In this Step-by-Step look, the results of several of the tests listed in the list above are shown.
Screen shots were obtained using a Sony DSC-R1 Digital Still Camera. All photos were taken at at 10 megapixels and resized for posting.
1. I connected the HDMI output the Sony BDP-S790 Blu-ray Disc player to one of the HDMI inputs on the Panasonic TC-L42ET5 LED/LCD TV (on review loan). I confirmed, via the onscreen display of the TC-L42ET5, that it was receiving a 1080p signal from the Sony BDP-S790 (converted and upscaled from 480i).
2. I inserted a Silicon Optix test disc in the Sony BDP-S790 and ran through a series of tests designed to detect the deinterlacing and 1080p scaling capability of the player.
NOTE: Even though the Sony BDP-S790 has the built-in capability to perform 4K video upscaling, that function was not tested as a 4K resolution TV or video projector was not available.
